The importance of Captions

If you want your website to found by search engines and have a lot of photos, you will have to add descriptive and unique captions to each one and also use something like iWeb SEO Tool to add alternative image tags.

Always remember that the search engine spiders read text - they can’t look at photos, watch movies or listen to music!

The BIG downside to using the iWeb templates is that the search engine spiders cannot read your captions and you can’t make use of alt image tags.

At first sight iWeb has a couple of neat looking ways to display photos.

One is - funnily enough - called the Photos Template and the other Albums where you can display both movies and photo albums.

They both incorporate slideshows for your images but the problem is that that they generate huge files, slow your website download to a crawl and, if you add enough stuff, will lock up in Internet Explorer.

I’ve read complaints from people who say their photo pages are downloading very slowly and find that have about twelve albums on a page each containing dozens of photos.

By all means try these out but keep the number and size of the images to a minimum.

You’ll know if you have added too many photos that are too large when your mother complains that she is able to make dinner while waiting for your page to download on her PC.
