"Optimizing" with Preview

As has already been pointed out, adding features like a drop shadow to an image increases the file size of the  web page and download speed suffers. This method of adding these features and then "processing" with Preview to create a single image was described in the iWeb forum by regular contributor Wyodor.

Create your image with drop shadow in iWeb and copy - Command C

Open Preview and select File/New from clipboard - Command N

Then Select All - Command A

In iWeb paste - Command V

Now you can delete the original.

This method of "optimizing" an image file overcomes problems with drop shadows not being rendered in Firefox
